Анотація

У статті розкривається поняття промислового поселення, що виникло в середині ХІХ століття у Великобританії, та аналізуються приклади зразкових містечок компаній, що засновувались приватними власниками для забезпечення проживання робітників на їхніх підприємствах. Окреслено основні містобудівні принципи розпланування модельного поселення: вибір місцевості, система розташування вулиць, типологія громадських будівель, приклади різних типів житла тощо. Визначено вплив цих принципів на подальші містобудівні тенденції, зокрема концепції «місто-сад», що сформувалась наприкінці ХІХ століття. Зазначено українські приклади міст, де була частково втілена ідея промислових поселень радянського періоду.

PLANNING PRINCIPLES OF MODEL INDUSTRIAL SETTLEMENTS OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE 19th CENTURY AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON URBAN PLANNING TRENDS

English abstract

In the article, the authors reveal the prerequisites for the emergence of industrial towns in Great Britain in the mid-19th century. The article analyzes examples of model towns of industrial companies that were founded by private owners to provide housing for workers at their enterprises. Examples of typical industrial settlements were Saltaire (1851), Ripley Ville (1866), Prices Village (1888), Port Sunlight (1888), Bourneville (1898–1905) and others. Unlike the overcrowded working-class areas of cities, these small model industrial towns had an orderly character and all the amenities for the residents. They were located quite isolated from other settlements and had connections by rail or water transport. Model towns of industrial companies promoted the idea of orderly, planned development of the city, as well as ensuring healthier living conditions for the community. The article analyzes several examples of industrial settlements. Based on the analysis conducted, the authors present the main urban planning principles for the planning of a model settlement. There are selection of the area for the location of production facilities; development of the street structure and division into functional zones of the settlement; selection of the typology of public buildings (schools, kindergartens, temples, hospitals, training centers for workers, etc.); development of several types of housing within the settlement for local residents. The article describes the influence of the listed principles on subsequent urban planning trends, in particular the concept of the "garden city", which was formed at the end of the 19th century. Using the example of British model towns, the article mentions examples of Ukrainian cities where the idea of industrial settlements of the Soviet period was partially implemented. These were mainly cities in the eastern regions of Ukraine, built to service the energy infrastructure. Modern examples of such company towns in Ukraine include the so-called nuclear power plant towns – settlements that were built specifically for the residence of nuclear power plant employees who service them. Unlike British cities, such cities had no private owners, and the Soviet authorities completely controlled the lives of their residents.
