VALUE OF THE INDICATOR OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION OF THE TRAFFIC FLOW IN THE SYSTEM FOR ASSESSING THE LEVELS OF SERVICE OF THE ROAD NETWORK OF THE CITY

English abstract

Energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important. It is also relevant for the transport industry. The article discusses the issue of the energy consumption indicator value determining the traffic flow in the system for assessing the levels of service of the city’s road network. Using as the example the energy consumption study on the citywide highway of controlled traffic in Kyiv (Povitroflotsky prospect), the authors showed a correlation between indicators of service levels and energy consumption of a traffic flow and proved the presence of higher energy costs in areas with a lower level of service. From the point of view of energy efficiency, the existing basic technical indicators that determine the level of service of the traffic flow: traffic speed, time delays, maneuver freedom, traffic interruptions, are no longer enough. The authors propose to take into account in this list such an important indicator as to the energy consumption of the traffic flow, which, in turn, is associated with a large number of indicators, namely, the speed of movement, time delays, and the composition of the traffic flow, the structure of the traffic flow, the movement mode of the traffic flow, the movement characteristics of the traffic stream flow, geometric parameters of the road network. To determine the interdependence and visual demonstration of the research results, the Povitroflotsky prospect was modeled in the PTV Vissim software package, which allows the reproduction of the imitation movement at the micro-level. The article presents cartograms characterizing the average speed of traffic flow, the relative time of transport delays, the loading on the highway sections, and the traffic flow density. Thus, the article proves that the indicator of energy consumption is important in the criteria system of service levels and has a direct impact on the conservation of resources, that is, by improving traffic conditions on the roads, we get not only safety, comfort, and convenience, but also rational use of resources.
